What Kind Of Bush Was The Burning Bush
Camila Farah
In the biblical narrative the burning bush is the location at which moses was appointed by god to lead the israelites out of egypt and into canaan.
The rabbis related that the imagery conveyed the compassion of the lord for his people some scholars lean toward the acacia bush or the rubus discolor as the particular species of this burning bush. Rather it implies some little group or cluster or copse of the dry thorny acacias which are characteristic of the country and over which any ordinary fire would have passed like a flash leaving them all in grey ashes. The burning bush is an object described by the book of exodus 1 4 17 as being located on mount horeb. The name burning bush derives from the volatile oils produced by the plant which can catch fire readily in hot weather leading to comparisons with the burning bush of the bible including the suggestion that this is the plant involved there.
That is the imagery was the burning bondage of the oven of egypt. The bush does not mean one single shrub. Albus exudes vapor that readily ignites if you hold a match to it and some say it ignites all by itself if the sun is hot enough. According to the narrative the bush was on fire but was not consumed by the flames hence the name.
Others claim the fire was caused by a volcanic vent near the bush. Some say it was a gas plant vegetation which emits a flammable substance. This is the first time the bible uses the word holy with reference to god verse 5. The bush itself was most likely some kind of bramble or thorn bush and the fire burning the bush was in the form of the angel of the lord who appeared to him moses in flames of fire exodus 3 2.
