What Moon Phase Does A Solar Eclipse Occur
Camila Farah
Solar eclipses usually occur in the daytime.
It looks like the moon has taken a bite out of the sun. Lunar eclipses happen in the nightime usually around. A solar eclipse occurs when a portion of the earth is engulfed in a shadow cast by the moon which fully or partially blocks sunlight. Therefore the moon has to be just around new moon.
The ancient babylonians used it to predict lunar eclipses. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon travels between the earth and the sun while solar eclipse occurs when the earth s path crosses between the moon and sun. The moon s two shadows an eclipse of the sun or solar eclipse can only occur at new moon when the moon passes between earth and sun. That s because the new moon occurs when the full moon s unlit side faces earth.
Otherwise you wouldn t see the sun in the sky. Throughout the year the moon s orbital tilt remains fixed with respect to the stars meaning that it changes with respect to. The moon becomes visible over the sun s disk. The other side is getting the full sun.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the earth s shadow just as a solar eclipse occurs when part of the earth passes through the moon s shadow. A solar eclipse is only visible from a specific location on earth at any given time while a lunar eclipse can be observed from almost any point on the planet s surface. When the new moon s. This total eclipse happens about every year.
The reason is that the moon s orbit around the earth is tilted relative to the earth s orbit around the sun. A solar eclipse happens when the moon gets in the way of the sun s light and casts its shadow on earth. A solar eclipse can only occur during the new moon phase. Isn t it strange that it gets dark in the middle of the day.
But if that s the case why do eclipses happen at all. Complete solar eclipse has five phases. Solar eclipses occur in cycles called eclipse cycles. So why don t eclipses happen twice a month.

What we commonly call a solar eclipse can occur only at the time of the new moon. Such alignment coincides with a new moon syzygy indicating the moon is closest to the ecliptic plane. The saros cycle is a period of approximately 6 585 3 days or around 18 years 11 days and 8 hours and it occurs due to a combination of 3 lunar cycles.Source : pinterest.com
