What To Do After Tie Dying A Shirt

At first you ll notice a lot of dye rinsing from the garment which is normal.

Wash it on its own when you re ready to wash put it in the washing machine by itself or with other similarly colored tie dyed shirts. Once the water runs clear rinse the shirt under cool water. Once dyed seal the t shirt in a ziplock bag and let it sit for six to eight hours or overnight. I usually let ours sit over night.

Wash your newly tie dyed fabrics in separate load from your other laundry for the first wash or two. If you try to dye the shirt without washing it first the dye might roll right off. Once the dye has set you rinse it with cold water. You will want to wipe down or wash the rack in between each shirt because there will be dye left on it from the other shirt.

Rinse the dyed shirt under warm water to remove excess dye. This will remove the sizing and the stiffness of the shirt. It s the perfect amount of dampness. Pre wash your cotton garment before tie dying so shrinkage doesn t affect your tie dye pattern.

The longer you wait the more time the dye will have to set into the fabric. Prewash your garments before tie dyeing. Up shirt to your sink. Put your newly tie dyed garment in a plastic bag and leave it in there for 24 hours prior soaking it in vinegar.

Finally maintain the brightness of your dyed fabric by always washing it in cold water. Wash on the basic cycle then remove shake out and dye. Once you re finished dyeing your fabric set the color with a solution of water white vinegar and salt. Let the water flow onto the shirt.

Let the dye marinate don t wash your shirt for at least 24 hours after dying it. Once you are done dyeing the shirt you will wrap it with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 8 hours.
