The new deal redefined the role of the government convincing the majority of ordinary americans that the government not only could but should intervene in the economy as well as protect and provide direct support for american citizens.
There were many programs that were established as part of the new deal. Some programs threatened both individual freedom and free enterprise critics worried that the government would spend more money than it would receive creating a deficit spending. The legacy of the new deal comprised both an escape from the harsh economic realities of great depression and a gradual shift in the structure of government agencies and national projects the legacy of which still endures today. These programs have a positive and a negative legacy depending on a person s point.
Some argue that the new deal gave too much power to the federal government. By the end of the 1930s roosevelt and his democratic congresses had presided over a transformation of the american government and a realignment in american party politics. Some of these programs still exist today. Roosevelt who took office in 1933 to respond to the calamity of the great depression and alleviate the despair besetting america.
The legacy of the new deal. While not a complete success it did give the people confidence and hope that the government would help restore and reform the economic collapse in the us. Many new agencies were passed by congress to create jobs like the wpa ccc nra etc. The legacy of the new deal.
