Hibernate on the other hand makes sense if you know you won t be using your computer for a while but don t want to manually open the apps and files when you work again. Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short period of time. You can quickly resume normal full power operation within a few seconds. The computer doesn t use much power in sleep mode but it does use some.

Hibernate uses less power than sleep and when you start up the pc again you re back to where you left off though not as fast as sleep. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as standby mode. Hibernate will take longer to resume but is still faster than booting your laptop from scratch.
