Dawn dish soap has been widely used as a flea killer for dogs and can make a good cheap alternative to dog shampoo in a pinch.
We can t stress that latter point enough dish soap could burn a canine s mouth and lead to vomiting and diarrhea if consumed and your dog will more than likely try to lick the soap from their fur. The biggest risk is skin irritation. You don t need anything fancy or medicated unless your dog has a medical issue. There s also a chance of the dish soap irritating your dog s eyes or stomach.
Regular dog shampoo and if you can t find it use johnsons baby wash. If you need to give him a quick bath and have no dog shampoo available you can use human shampoo but make sure you rinse him throughly as when he licks it can make him sick to his stomach. Then something like an aloe oatmeal blend for dogs. If you do decide to use dish soap to clean up your dog the approach is similar to shampoo.
But we do not advise it. Grind the oatmeal in a coffee grinder or food processor until it s the consistency of flour. Pine tar soap is recommended by groomers and dog enthusiasts if your pup has hot spots. Those are what i use.

What kind of soap is good to use on a dog. You can use dawn dish detergent but i wouldn t recommend this unless your dog has fleas as it s not meant for long term use. Run a bath of cool water lather up their fur with the liquid solution and wash it off thoroughly. Ask your vet for some aloe and oatmeal soap.
Ye olde pine tar the most old fashioned and er fragrant soap around is also one of the most highly touted for dog bath care. Pour into a large bowl and mix in baking soda. Dish washing soap or other harsh cleaning agents.
