What Is The Function Of Mitochondria In Cells
Olivia Luz
Mitochondria also store calcium for cell signaling activities generate heat and mediate cell growth and death.
It produces atp for energy. But there is more to mitochondria than energy. Mitochondria mitochondrion singular are membrane bound organelles found in the cells of most eukaryotic organisms. They typically are round to oval in shape.
In some cells the mitochondria are uncoupled and produce heat. When mitochondria produce atp they produce energy. Helps in detoxifying ammonia in the liver cells. Other functions of mitochondria include heat production programmed cell death regulation of the metabolic activity in a cell and the storage of calcium.
Promotes the growth of new cells and cell multiplication. Regulates the metabolic activity of the cell. Mitochondria have many other functions as well. Given that they perform a lot of functions there are tons of mitochondrial diseases.

For example muscle cells and nerve cells have large number of them per cell. The main job of mitochondria is to perform cellular respiration. Mitochondrion organelle found in most eukaryotic cells the primary function of which is to generate energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate. Mitochondria are these tiny parts of the cells with their own dna which generate energy and make our life possible.
They may vary widely passing through heart problems muscle weakness damaged vision hearing difficulties and in some cases even death. Mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell. The membrane is where the chemical reactions occur and the matrix is where the fluid is held. Mitochondria are a part of eukaryotic cells.
But those cells with high physiological activity posses a higher number of mitochondria. They also regulate the cell s metabolism and have roles in apoptosis controlled cell death cell signaling and thermogenesis heat production. The main function of mitochondria is the production of atp through cellular respiration. The function of the mitochondria in both plant and animal cells is to produce energy for the cell via atp production as part of the krebs cycle.
