What Is The Difference Between Pollination And Fertilization
Camila Farah
Pollination is an initial stage in pollen transfer and fertilisation takes place after successful pollination.
Fertilization which is the union of sperm and egg occurs deep within the flower after pollination. Pollination is followed by fertilization in flowering plants. Whereas in fertilization takes place after pollination is transferred successfully. The major difference between pollination and fertilization is that pollination pollens transfer from one flower to another.
Fertilization takes place only after pollination. Fertilization occurs by the process of hydration activation and pollen tube formation. Pollination occurs with the help of pollination agents like water air insects and animals. Pollination is an external mechanism and takes place on an outer part of a flower while fertilization is an internal mechanism and takes place inside the flowers.
It is a physical process. Pollen grains undergo dehydration to reduce their masses to ease the process of pollination. The difference between pollination and fertilization is that in pollination pollen is transferred from the male part of any plant to the female part of the plant while in fertilization gamete from a male partner unites with the gamete from a female partner or pollen from the male part of flower combines with the eggs from the female part of the flower. The main difference between pollination and fertilization is that pollination is the deposition of pollen grains from the anther to a stigma of a flower whereas fertilization is the fusion of the haploid gametes forming a diploid zygote.

When a pollen grain lands on the stigma it generates a tiny tube tipped with sperm. The major difference between pollination and fertilisation is the different stages that these indicate in plant fertilisation. Pollination takes place before fertilization. The key difference between pollination and fertilization is that pollination refers to the transfer of pollen from anthers to the stigma of flowers while fertilization is the fusion of male and female gametes in order to produce a zygote.
Pollination takes place before fertilization and it is of two types self pollination and cross pollination.
