Goths often see their subculture as a way of life while emo is often considered by critics as a phase or a fad.

Basically both emo and goth are forms of experimental underground music and hardcore punk. The main thing to remember when looking at the differences of emo and goth is that emo isn t meant to be dark but goth is.
