Leviticus 19 28 verse literally translates. Since the word tattoo does appear in this verse in some popular english translations this argument seems straightforward. I am the lord the word writing refers to inscribed or engraved symbols words and is used only here. A tattoo is a type of decoration made by injecting ink into the skin.
Therefore glorify god in your body and in your spirit which are god s. And writing marks you will not make on you. As tattoos are permanent consider whether we and our family will still want or regret a tattoo in many years time. Usually in the new testament god shows that some things are permissible such as eating pork.
Because of scripture s silence getting inked falls under the category of a gray area and believers should follow their convictions in the matter respecting those who may have different convictions. The short answer is that the bible does not say anything clear and direct about tattoos. In leviticus 19 28 it says no tattoos. The new testament does not say anything about whether or not a believer in jesus christ should get a tattoo.
